Mattress Genie Bed Lift Reviews

Customer Reviews for the Mattress Genie Adjustable Bed Wedge:

  • This product really helped. I have not had problems since using this to raise the head of my mattress. I have really slept well. Thanks  - Amazon Customer 2-5-09
  • Excellent product save us by one of those expensive mattress. No hassle easy set up works great!, February 5, 2009
  • I bought this as a birthday gift for my elderly aunt. I was a bit skeptical that an air mattress-type unit could lift a queen mattress but it did it, and it did it well. The maximum incline, while not upright, is quite steep and is great for TV watching. We ended up buying another for my mom. ...
The only downside is that it is quite slow to inflate and deflate, and is noisy during operation. Amazon customer 2-3-2009
  • This (Mattress Genie) is a great product to get a good night sleep and or to watch TV. - Amazon Customer  January 11, 2009
  • My doctor told me that I had to raise the head of my bed 6" - 10" . We tried using the blocks under the legs, but that made it feel like we were sleeping on a slant board and about to slide off the end. Not a pleasant way to sleep! Then someone told me about the Mattress Genie, so I got it. What a blessing it has been. Because it only raises the head of the mattress, it does not slant the entire bed. I am getting relief from the GERD and my husband is snoring less - bonus! And, I can raise it high to read in bed, then lower it to sleep.  - Amazon Customer on 1-9-2009
  • The Mattress Genie is a life saver! My mom was getting out of the hospital and we needed a product that would lift the mattress so she could get out of bed easier, plus have the comfort of sitting up at different positions. It worked wonderfully and I have recommended this product to many people. ...Kathleen December 14, 2008
  • I have chronic lower back pain (for about 18 years now), and can not sleep on a flat mattress. I found I could sleep only in a recliner. So I decided to try this product on a Queen sized Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress, and it has worked great for me. I do sleep on the mattress by myself (in the middle), and have the Mattress Genie inflated to nearly max, and I also have a cushion under my knees. The mattress does not slide around at all, and with this setup I sleep very well.

For traveling, I find that this product is easy to pack, and it's not heavy at all. The compressor is not very large, and the inflatable part deflates and folds neatly. I find it fairly easy to install in any hotel bed. Since I always request queen size beds, it fits perfectly. And the maid service never disturbs the installed Mattress Genie.

Overall, I think it's a good product. It works well for me, I can take it with me when I travel, and if it breaks, it's cheap to replace.

Update: Some have commented that this product is noisy. Wanted to clarify that it only makes noise when you inflate/deflate it. Otherwise it is completely silent. Also wanted to state that the compressor does have a "quiet" setting that makes much less noise than the normal setting. So for those that are worried about too much noise, there is the option to switch the compressor to the more quiet setting. This will cause the compressor to take a little more time to inflate the Mattress Genie, but that's the trade-off for less noise. I personally don't think it's too noisy either way.

I am still using the Mattress Genie, going on for just over 2 years now, and am very satisfied with it. It travels with me on business trips (I find it easy to pack it), and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to sleep in an elevated bed, but doesn't want to change out their regular bed for one of those hospital beds or pay for an expensive adjustable bed. It hasn't damaged my mattress, and I continue to sleep well with it. I do make adjustments (inflate/deflate) from time to time, and it works flawlessly. Very convenient to have that remote (that lights up, by the way) handy for making adjustments. - Amazon Customer on December 8, 2008
  • Thanks to all the predecessors who posted reviews on this and other sites. Raising the bed on wood blocks didn't work; trying to sleep on a reading or other pillows didn't work -- this works! I have no headboard or footboard and it doesn't seem to be a problem. It also makes changing the sheets easier!...October 24, 2008
  • My 83 year old mother has scoliosis of the lower back and is in chronic pain from it. She was having to sit up in bed to get any kind of sleep but she wasn't getting a good night's sleep. I started looking into adjustable beds for her and was shocked at the price. As I Googled adjustable beds up came the web site for Mattress Genie. I showed it to my mom and she was more than happy to try it. Since she recently moved into an assisted living place close to me she had downsized from a double bed to a twin bed. She told me the day after it came and I had set it up she slept all night long. She loves it! It's such a simple product to set up and now she's sleeping so much better. Thank you Mattress Genie for designing such a wonderful product. 10-9-2008
  • This (Mattress Genie) has been a lifesaver after surgery. The best thing to help going to sleep after surgery...September 30, 2008
  • Over the years I struggled with buying different styles and types of pillows to try an alleviate sleeping issues with a hiatal hernia. I purchased the geni with little thought that it would help. Wrong, it is perfect and I love how it adjusts to suit my needs. Should have gotten this a long time ago....September 30, 2008
  • We bought this for my daughter who is only 8 but has severe acid reflux problems. She often coughs and clears her throat during the night due to the problem. I do think the mattress genie is helping. It is hard to properly evaluate it as I don't sleep in her room. She does slide down and end up at the bottom of it but I think this is because it is really designed for adults. She seems to like it and when she slept in her sisters room one day, she expressed that she missed having it. - Amazon Customer August 29, 2008
  • I have breathing problems and have been sleeping in a recliner for some months. I started looking at electric beds and stumbled upon the mattress genie. Since I need only to have my upper body elevated, I thought this might be the answer to my problem. I was right. I am once again sleeping in my bed ! It's a great product at a very reasonable price. - August 15, 2008
  • Bought this for my mother. Has really helped her. It is noisy when inflating, but that is no big deal really. She doesn't change it very much, it hasn't lost any air in the weeks since we originally installed it. So far, so good. - July 30, 2008
  • We purchased the mattress genie after bringing my daughter home from the hospital following spinal fusion surgery. The post-surgical pain made it impossible for her to get comfortable in bed, and she could only sit in a recliner chair. For the first several days she did a circuit from one recliner to another all night long. In the hospital, she had been able to get reasonably comfortable in the adjustable hospital bed, so we looked into the mattress genie as a possible way to bring her some relief (and to get her to be in bed at night).

I was a bit apprehensive reading some of the other reviews, but was pleased (and a bit surprised) to find that the mattress genie really works as advertised. It really does elevate the head of the bed very well, and even though my daughter has an inner spring mattress, it did "break" and bend when she layed on it, creating much the same profile as a hospital bed.

To put in perspective some of the negative comments in other reviews, I'd point out that you need to have the right expectations going in, and if you're using it as we did (for one 100-pound individual lying in the center of the bed), it works surprisingly well, especially given the price. The inflation pump is the decibel level of a typical electric air mattress pump or vacuum cleaner (i.e., on the louder side), but we had no problem at all with the air bladder deflating overnight as some others have reported. It retained the air fully, so only needed to be inflated once before going to bed and was still pretty much in the same position in the morning. Thus, the noise level of the pump really wasn't a concern for us. se the mattress up to as much as 40-45 degrees, although we generally didn't need to go that much. It deflates quietly, and the motion when raising or lowering is very smooth and my daughter found it comfortable after her surgery. I can see how some reviewers had an issue when a husband and wife tried to lay on the bed together while using the mattress genie. It is very stable in the center of the bed (so works great for one person centered on the bed), but does make the edges rather unstable so it may be a challenge for two people laying on the edges of the bed. I would recommend using it with a bed that has a solid footboard (as well as headboard or up against a wall), as it does indeed tend to move the mattress toward the foot of the bed as it raises it. Similarly, the air bladder tends to move itself toward the head of the bad at the same time. A footboard stops the mattress from moving too far, so kept it well contained.

This product was spectacular for what we needed, did its job very well, and helped my daughter get in a comfortable position and sleep in her bed following her spinal fusion surgery. I'd highly recommend it, taking into account some of the considerations I noted for your specific situation. - Amazon customer July 27, 2008
  • This Mattress Genie is a wonderful product....I actually bought it to elevate my legs and feet....and I wish I'd bought it a lot sooner.....I'm very happy with it!! - July 17, 2008
  • GREAT! BEATS BUYING AN ADJUSTABLE BED AT HIGH COSTS. BUY FROM THIS SELLER! - 8137/07 Ebay customer
  • Woo hoo...this made a great birthday gift. I have one very happy Mom! Thanks!! - 8/7/07 Ebay customer
  • Product gives adjustable lift to the head of the bed without causing you to slide down in the bed as the automatic bed did. We have tried them all: pillows, block elevators and the electric bed, and this product has proven superior. Very easy to use and effective at preventing reflux over night.... - 2/28/07 Amazon customer
  • Nice deal for the money. This is helping solve several medical problems. Would definitely purchase again. - 3/17/07 Amazon customer
  • The first night we used the Genie Lift, I had the best night's sleep in some time. I wasn't expecting it but I slept less hours and woke up more refreshed. This has continued night after night. - 8/31/06 Amazon customer
  • I love this! It has helped with my sinuses and my Fibromyalgia. My daughter loved lying on my bed so much, I am buying one for her bed! - 7/20/07  Amazon customer
  • I'd give this a 5, but I removed a point because the pump is kind of loud. I bought this to help with acid reflux at night - raise your bed a few inches and it helps!  - 6/14/07 ContourLiving.com customer
  • This product is everything you say. I did have a full size electric adjustable bed. This works every bit as well for what I need. I got rid of the bed because I moved. It was so heavy it was just easier to give it away and not bother to move it or pay to have it moved. This one I will be able to just deflate it and pack it  - 5/21/07  ContourLiving.com customer
  • The mattress genie The mattress genie was truly a blessing for me. I have acid reflux and needed my head elevated at night. However, sleeping on several pillows, even a wedge pillow, gave me pains in my neck and shoulders. These pains were even worse because I suffer from Fibromyalgia. With the mattress genie, the entire head of the bed is elevated and I do not wake up with neck pain. I have had the genie for over a year and inflate and deflate it daily. I have had no problems. The only negative feature - the motor is very noisy when inflating. It deflates silently. The first time my granddaughter saw the genie at work, she said, "Grandma's bed is sitting up!" She's right. - 4/14/07  Amazon customer

  • This product seems to be a great idea. It really helps if you have reflux and need to be elevated at night, without stacking pillows under you. I have used it fully inflated several times to watch TV and it is great for that also. I deflate it during the day, so it doesn't seem to have harmed the mattress at all. My mom has one on her bed and really loves it. I haven't found it to lose air and except for the noise it makes upon inflation, it's a great product - 3/11/07  Amazon customer
  • The "Genie" works very well. You can elevate your head from one inch to as high as possible. Easy to install. Once it is installed you never have to worry again. The best part is the cost. Try pricing an adjustable bed of any sort and you'll understand what I mean. - 3/8/07  Amazon customer
  • WORKS GREAT AND WITH ANY MATTRESS. DUE TO SEVERE NECK INJURIES I CAN NOW SLEEP BETTER AT A SLIGHT INCLINE. THANKS  - 1/11/07 Amazon customer
  • I was skeptical about the Genie being able to lift my thick 13" mattress, but, because of medical reasons, thought I'd give it a try. I'm sleeping like a log by lifting the head about 1". It can lift it the full way for reading as well. I love it. -  1/9/07 Amazon customer
  • I got this for our bed when I was about 6 months pregnant, to help with some indigestion/reflux problems I was having and to help my husband with his snoring. It works great! It was very easy to "install", and since it's adjustable, it can change heights as we need it to. The motor is a little loud - you wouldn't want to use it unexpectedly in the middle of the night - but no louder than a vacuum. We love it.  -  1/9/07  Amazon customer
  • A must have for rotator cuff surgery. I bought this before my second surgery this year. I only wish I had known about it before my first surgery. After both surgeries, due to the pain, I had to sleep in a semi-upright position for about 3 months (which is fairly common for this surgery). This has been wonderful. Better than a wedge, I can control the angle/height of head of bed. As weeks go by, I can adjust/lower the angle of bed. I tried pillows and wedges the first surgery...this is so much better. Just be sure to get a knee lift or knee wedge/pillow to raise knees so your back doesn't hurt, regardless of what you use to prop your upper body up.  - 1/3/07  Amazon customer
  • The Mattress Genie Lift System is the best way to get the proper elevation to the head of your bed without causing your body to slide down the mattress. I needed it for reflux, but my husband has benefited with his sinus problems. We have not experienced the feet swelling that other modalities have caused. I would recommend this to anyone needing this for medical issues and also for anyone that was interested in one of the expensive moveable bed systems. This is much cheaper and is controlled with the touch of a button as well, minus the bars in the back!  - 11/16/06
  • I recently purchased this bed lift system for a good friend who just had open heart surgery. After returning home from the hospital, doctors told him he had to sleep in an elevated position. I thought the only alternative would be to rent an expensive hospital bed, but then I read about this product. What I thought might be a cheap gimmick turned out to be a great buy. My friend loved it and it still works well months later.  - 11/14/06  Amazon customer
  • Just bought this for my parents after Dad had some recent health problems. They're in their late eighties and skeptical of 'new' ideas .... but both have said that the Mattress Genie is a "godsend". Couldn't ask for a better recommendation!  - 11/6/06  Amazon customer
  • I LOVE MY MATTRESS GENIE!!!! IT'S THE BEST INVENTION SINCE AIR CONDITIONING! I'VE HAD MINE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, AND I SLEEP BETTER. I DON'T SLEEP ON 10 PILLOWS ANYMORE!! I'M FREE. AM I HAPPY? YES!! THANK YOU!  -  9/18/06  ContourLiving.com customer
  • My husband and I are finally able to sleep in our bed thanks to the mattress genie. What a miracle! My husband suffers from GERD and I have sinus problems now that we have the genie all our problems are solved. In fact, I don't even have a back ache when I get up in the morning thanks to the genie. You saved me from buying an adjustable bed and spending all that money. Thank you. I'm also glad that we can take it with us when we travel. You are a life saver. We can't thank you enough. Can't wait to receive the massager. Thank you again!  - 8/24/06  ContourLiving.com customer
  • I L.O.V.E. the mattress genie. I suffer from severe acid reflux and it wakes me up at all hours of the night with the Mattress Genie I can Practically sleep through the night. I would like it to be a little bit less loud upon inflation but other than that its wonderful. Thank You!!!  - 7/27/06  ContourLiving.com customer

  • I had an adjustable bed for over 15 years now and it finally went out on me and motor can't be replaced and boy was this an answer to a prayer. It works just like the bed and much cheaper its great and plan on getting another one for my grandson to sit and watch tv with. He always uses those arm chair things and slouches now he is up to 5'11' its hard on him so this will work great. Thanks for a great reasonable product.  - 5/11/06  ContourLiving.com customer
